Total Losers!
Wednesday, June 13th, 2012Yesterday my 8 to 5 job had me working a trade show where I was happy to meet two incredible men. Ken and Austin Andrews were competitors on the 11th season of The Biggest Loser. I follow this show and have a huge appreciation for the brave men and women who sign up for this show. Just the idea of putting on a sports bra and bike shorts and stepping on a scale in front of millions of views makes me feel sick…and I’m not obese!
Ken shared with me some statistics that led him out of the pulpit and on his way to start a new venture…Retrofit Ministries. He dove into studying Christian’s weight issues, as opposed to other faiths and learned that children raised in Christian churches were much more likely to be obese. Baptists and Pentecostals lead the pack in this group. He went on to tell me that at his heaviest, he was over 400 pounds, yet no one in his church ever expressed a concern about his health. If he was abusing drugs or alcohol, I’m sure that they would have confronted him. Why should abuse of food be different?

I wish I could share with you all of the things he shared with me…You would be amazed! The exciting news is that he and Austin have recently been given the opportunity to be involved with the Biggest Loser Resort and lead participants through the spiritual transition that takes place as they journey into a life of health. Very cool!
Read a great article from the LA Times about Ken’s journey here and stay up to date on their schedule here.
Sending out another big HIGH 5 to you, Ken and Austin! Thanks for sharing your story with me!
