Come And Get It

Sunday, July 1st, 2012

4 Many of you have inquired about the items that were not sold at last week’s market, so I want you all to have a chance to purchase some of the things that were left over.  Some of my favorite things were not sold, so there’s still great treasures available!  Most of my large items were transferred to Random, located at 6465 Mockingbird Ln. #366 in Dallas.  This amazing Schwinn (I think it’s a 1061 model) is there just waiting for someone to bring it home and refurbish!  The frame is solid and just needs a couple of parts replaced.

Industrial Revolution

Never underestimate the power of a great industrial find!  All it takes is a little imagination and you can have an interesting focal point on the cheap!  I’ve learned to keep my eyes open when driving around…you’ll be amazed at what people are willing to give you for free or very little money.  The rustier the better!

Here’s a little industrial inspiration to get you started!

Speaking of industrial…here’s a sneak peak at a couple of carts that will be at the next Stash sale!  I’ll be sure to give you the scoop on the dates later, but…for now, I think I’ll use these to display some pretty Spring flowers!

What’s your best industrial find?  Would you put something that was rusty in your home?

Pipe Dreams

While checking out Nate Burkus’ site, I spotted this adorable DIY project that can be done quickly with items you can pick up at the nearest hardware store.

Here’s what you’ll need:

2” x 1 ¼” hex bushing
1 ¼” x 1” hex bushing
1” x ¾” hex bushing
¾” x ½” hex bushing
5 nipples, 1” each
5 plumbing Ts, ½” each
4 candles, 1” diameter

1. Use a soft cloth to wipe away the oil coating on each plumbing part. Screw the 1 ¼” bushing into the 2” brushing, making three full turns to secure it. Proceed with the 1” and ¾” bushings in a similar manner, ending with the smallest bushing. Set aside.

2. To make the arms, screw a nipple into either side of one of the Ts. This will be the center of the candelabrum. Screw a T into each nipple, turning it a few times and ending with the center hole facing the opposite direction of the one in the center. Repeat with the remaining nipples and Ts, fastening two on either side of the center. Screw a nipple into the open hole on the center piece. Join the arm to the base by screwing the nipple into the top of the base, turning it until it is secure.

Keep your eyes open for industrial pipes of different sizes that would make good candlesticks.  Here’s a few other examples for inspiration…

If you’re more advanced in your handy-man skillz, perhaps you want to tackle a larger pipe project….  Check out these pipe fitting bookshelves recently featured on Apartment Therapy made from gas pipe and 1×12″ 8′ planks of pine from a local lumber yard.

Cool, right?

The pine was stained to look antique.

Pipe assembly.

The final product looks amazing!

Uncommon Objects

Friday, February 11th, 2011

After spending time in my friend, Dana’s, home recently, I’m very  aware of uncommon objects used in design.  I love the industrial minimalism used in this home in Sonoma featured on Remodelista.

Ebony stained floors…hand-forged steel fireplace surround…sliding barn doors in the hallway

Roost halo chandelier…Breuer steel tube chairs from 1st Dibs

raw steel accent wall in the kitchen…Love !

a bar out of a vintage carpenter’s work bench...vintage propellor table lamp

pendant light made from an old bullet cap…hair on hide rug from Brazil

salvaged piece of machinery with a thick marble top as sink base

Here’s a few other ideas for uncommon objects…
