Snap To It

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

I’m a huge fan of using vintage clipboards to display collections.  Not long ago I found a journal at a flea market that an art teacher kept with miniature versions of her art projects that she taught in the classroom.  I think these pages would be the perfect collection to display on old clipboards.  I may be selling them as a complete set at Stash’s next sale at market (in June) since I don’t have enough wall space to display them in my home. (More info coming soon about that sale!)

Here’s a few examples of great art displays on clipboards…

Sometimes it’s hard to find old clipboards…I know, you can always find new ones,  but isn’t it more fun to find old ones for 25 cents at garage sales?…SO, I thought I would include a great DIY  that I think looks great!

This clipboard actually doesn’t start with a clipboard at all!  It starts with a mini chalkboard which allows you to create a unique boarder around your art!  Here’s a quick video tutorial that anyone can do!  Even if you’re not the artsy-craftsy type…

I love following EZ from Creature Comforts blog, which is where these these DIY videos came from.  You’ll love following her too!

What’s your favorite way to display art collections?  Do you ever change out displays?  What’s your favorite way to do this?

The Artist In Your Home

Monday, April 4th, 2011

My favorite artist is the nearest child that has a canvas and drawing instrument of some sort or molding clay.  I truly prefer a free-spirited child’s scribbles to an experienced and collected artist.  This love may have been brought on by budget restraints and the need for creativity in order to have an art-filled home, but Im convinced that my collection of vintage modern abstracts and art class works I’ve gathered from flea markets, Ebay and thrift shops over the years, is just as loved and appreciated as any other high-priced collection.

Some of my absolute favorite pieces comes from my niehgborhood’s elementary school’s (Rosemont Elementary) annual art show.  That’s where I bought these clay pieces that have adorned my fence for several years.  My friend, Kellie Lawson, is one of the art teachers there, so I’m a little biased, but I think the art work that comes out of these children is some of the best I’ve seen!  Here are some of my favorites from this year’s show at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center.  I think it may have been the best one yet!  (But… I say that every year…)

If you haven’t already figure it out, I have mad love for molded clay and pottery.  These precious little molded characters caught my eye the minute I walked into the gallery.  I told Kellie I will purchase any of these that the kids are willing to sell.  I would love several of these to make a collection!

My guess is that these are self portraits of what each child wants to be when they grow up…  I hope each child achieves their dreams!

These little bowls hold the characters from a creative writing project that the students produce!  Story pots!

These kids may be future fabric designers!  Can’t you see a bolt of fabric with these designs?

Ode to Frida!  Love it!  Can you believe that these portraits are from 2nd graders?

These birthday cakes are ripe for poster art or greeting cards.  Another amazing 2nd grade collection!  I’m hoping to score a couple of these too!
