Thrift With Dignity

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

The opening celebration party of  Dwell With Dignity’s Thrift Studio was a grand success!  This pop-up shop, in the heart of the design district, will be open during the month of October featuring items from Jan Showers and David Sutherland along with a big variety of donated items …vintage and new.  The plan is to open Thrift Studio bi-annually to help raise funds for Dwell With Dignity.  After attending the grand opening on Friday night, it just moved to the top of my list for finding luxury for less!

Thrift Studio

Five of Dallas most creative designers were asked to peruse the Dwell With Dignity warehouse and create a vignette with their pick of the donated goods.  These vignettes were the highlight of the night and proved to be a great marketing tool, as “SOLD” stickers covered most of the items early in the evening.

Peacock Alley linens

No design celebration is ever complete without Peacock Alley linens!!  Looks like whoever dressed this bed read our ‘Build A Better Bed’ series!  Peacock Alley is now dressing the beds of Dwell With Dignity’s design recipients!  Just one more reason to love their linens!

I limited myself to one cakeball…  Divine!

Did you guess what I bought?

These quirky paper mache heads had to make it home with me…as well as the worn leather chair that I’m sitting in…

I love the worn arms…

There’s still great deals there!  Be sure to make it over sometime during the month of October!

Bombs Away!

Monday, September 19th, 2011

The Winspear Opera House got a psychedelic make-over in honor of the upcoming production of “Hair” opening Sept. 20.  It was a beautiful day on Sunday, so I headed to the Arts District to check out this amazing yarn bomb display!

Winspear Opera House Dallas

Over 70 knitters from around the Dallas area emerged on the Winspear last week to cover everything that was nailed down with crocheted and knitted yarn…every piece stitched by hand…I would have loved to have dusted off my needles and participated in this.  I got a bit ‘snap happy’ over all of the gorgeous knit and crocheted eye candy.  I hope these pictures bring you an ounce of the ‘groovy’ feeling I had as I walked around this creative display of hippie happiness!

Wouldn’t it be cool if this is what all graffiti looked like?  Nothing harmed…just a display of colorful art made with thoughtful preparation…

The Arts District is a great place to take your family on the weekends.  There’s several one hour parking spots in the area….just enough time to walk around and snap some pictures and see the sites!  Your kids and dogs will love the reflecting pool beside the opera house!

‘Hair’ runs through Oct. 2nd, so try to make it within the next couple of weeks to see this amazing yarn bombing display!  You’re sure to have some great photo ops with your family!

If you want to snag a seat to see this classic musical, go the the Winspear Opera House box office on-line.

Peace and Love!
