Egg-straordinary: Easter egg decorating

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

Have you ever wondered why we decorate eggs for Easter?  Well, I’m not sure why I’ve never thought about this, but I decided to look into it…

I discovered that it’s a symbol of “New Life”!  I’m not sure why I never thought about this before!  Growing up in a Christian home, I knew that Easter was about celebrating Christ’s resurrection and just thought of the Easter bunny as the “Santa” of Easter…  I never thought about the reason behind the tradition of Easter eggs…

In Christianity, the egg symbolizes the empty tomb of Jesus.  The egg appears to be like the stone of a tomb…a bird hatches from it with life!  Similarly the Easter egg is a reminder that Jesus rose from the grave and that those who believe will experience eternal life.

I hope that this will cause you to look at the time you put into making your eggs beautiful a bit differently!

Wrapper's Delight

Friday, July 1st, 2011

When I was a kid and things got boring in the summer, sometimes that boredom led to “wrapping houses”.  All of my Dallas friends, and their kids, call it “rolling houses”…wrapping or rolling…it was a blast while we were young!  Of course, it had nothing to do with wrapping a the house at all…it was all about tossing multiple rolls of toilet paper into the highest branches of your friend's front yard trees and watching the long “tp” tail flow down.  If you didn't get caught in the act (which was truthfully the best part of it all…), the next morning the phones were a-buzz with conversations about “who done it”!

ob!  That's got to be the work of a true professional!

As an adult, all I can think about is all of that waisted toilet paper….  I hate to admit it, but when I was young “being green” had to do with Kermit the Frog.

Here's the cute little toilet paper roll craft that made me recall these childhood memories…

How cute are these little owls?  If your kids get a bit bored during this holiday weekend, encourage them to make these sweet owls instead of ruining somebody's holiday weekend cleaning up mounds of toilet paper…

You may have spotted this easy DIY in Martha Stuart’s June issue…  When I took time to read the directions and realized that you don’t have to cut out all of those tissue paper circles, my interest in the process of putting together quickly grew!

Well, shut the front door!  Look what Forever 21 is selling!

This cordless sewing machine runs on 4 double-A batteries.  The description says it’s pre-threaded!  That’s one of the hardest parts of sewing to me…
