The future’s so bright, you’ve got to wear shades! That’s the outlook I have for 2012! German artist, Nina Nolte’s series entitled The Best Is Yet To Come, that I just spotted on Luella & June, is the picture perfect representation of my feelings about turning the calendar year!
I’m moving into a new year that is full of changes and I couldn’t be more excited! I love that the women in this series are more mature (notice I didn’t say old…), glamorous, seem to be gazing at beautiful sights and are with their girlfriends…again, very representative of where I am. As I grow older, my friends become more and more important and enjoyable. I hope that some time this year I’ll be sitting in the sun with a my girlfriends planning the next adventure. I just hope that our jewels and scarves are as beautiful as these beauties!

This sculptor uses over 100,000 toothpicks and was made over the course of 35 years. Scott Weaver demonstrates the different ball runs that “tour” this depiction of San Francisco.
Kyle Bean is known for using unusual materials to craft sculptures. He recently created a series of portraits from pencil shavings for the contributors page of Wallpaper Handmade 2011. I’ll never look at the shavings from my eye liner pencil the same…

Check out Kyle Bean’s portfolio and don’t miss his chicken sculpture made from eggshells entitled, “What Came First”. So clever!
Since we’re on the topic of pencils, I’ll also share this music video called, ‘Against The Grain’… Happy Friday!
You may have noticed that I often feature artist who use unconventional materials. I’m amazed by artist who are able to take materials that 99% of us would toss in the trash without blinking an eye and make something interesting and beautiful.
Mark Langan uses reclaimed corrugated cardboard and non-toxic glue to create three-demensional complex sculptures. These materials would otherwise end up in a landfill.
His unique work has captured the attention of several companies in the paper industry and led to commissioned logos, like this one for International Paper.

This is amazing! Chan Hwee Chong uses a Faber Castell pen to create illustration by drawing spirals and not even lifting his pen! You’ve got to watch the video…
