Your John Henry – signature necklace

May 1st, 2013

Our signatures are almost as original as our finger prints.  They may change throughout the years…Like in Jr High when the dots on your i’s turned into big fat hearts…but they are always uniquely ours.

These signature necklaces from Brevity are about as personal as it gets.  I love the idea of wearing a loved ones signature or writing a short phrase for someone special.

No matter how you decide to wear it, or give it, it will be clear that this work of art represents your personality, your mark that has been established over the course of your life and shows who you are now.

Come On In! – Designers At Home

April 22nd, 2013

Last week I had two of the most amazing days that are sure to be highlights of my year!  My sweet friend, Ronda Rice Carman of All The Best Blog, and her sister, Marilyn, came in town to stay with me for a couple of days while we celebrated the release of her book, Designers At Home – Personal Reflections on Stylish Living.

Jan Showers and Kimberly Whitman hosted a lovely high tea, champagne and book-signing at Jan’s glamorous showroom in the Dallas Design District.

A visit to Jan’s showroom, filled with soothing colors and her timeless collection of furnishings, is a treat in itself; but the icing on the cake were the long-awaited copies of Ronda’s book.  Personally, I haven’t been able to put it down!  (You can find my Amazon review here)  This is a book that anyone with an appreciation for design must have in their library.  I love that it’s the size of a hardback novel so I can take it to bed with me for some late-night reading and throw it in my tote to read over a lunch break.  It’s absolutely delicious in every way, so order your copy here now!

After the book-signing event,  we all headed to the exclusive Preview Party for Dwell With Dignity’s  Thrift Studio and the volume was pumped up a notch as we shopped to the beats of DJ Lucy Wrubel.  This was the place to be and be seen in Dallas on Thursday night!  What a blast!  I’m happy to say that I snagged one of the mirrored bedside tables in the Lucy Wrubel/Peacock Alley vignette shown above.  What a steal at $95!

I totally lost my sense of “blogger responsibility” and didn’t take pictures. There were many photographers there, so I’m hoping that I’ll get to share more pictures of both events soon on my Facebook page so check back often!

Be sure to stop by Thrift Studio soon!  They brought in new products from their warehouse after the party, so you’re sure to find a great deal!  This pop-up shop will remain open through May 18th and you can find all of the details about location and shopping times here.

My favorite restaurant in the Dallas Design District is Oak.  This was a perfect spot to celebrate the success of Ronda’s book and a smashing Thrift Studio opening!  The food and service was divine, but the iPhone skillz of the waiter were lacking, as this was the result…

The next morning, Ronda and I decided that restaurants should use putting their waiters through iPhone picture-taking workshops as a marketing tool….  Just a thought…

I know you can’t really make anyone out, but Marilyn Rice Poole, Rob Lee, Amy Lambert Lee, Shelly Rosenberg, Denise McGaha, Ronda Rice Carman, me, Dana Pugh, Brad Clifford and his mom, Anita Taylor were all there and it was a night to be remembered!

I’m so very thankful for creative friends that inspire me and make my life so colorful!  XO to you all!

What Gives? – Wedding Gift Ideas

April 17th, 2013

We’re fast approaching wedding season and that means putting on our “creative thinking hats” and coming up with a great gift for the bride and groom!

Here are a few suggestions in hopes that I can make it a bit easier on you!

paulova-ceramics-wedding-gift-the-hidden-list

All couples receive salt and pepper shakers, but not salt and pepper bowls!  There’s something that feels good when you reach into a bowl with your finger tips, pinch a little salt and pepper and sprinkle it on your food or dish while cooking.

paulova-ceramics-gift-wedding-the-hidden-list

Paulova Ceramics, located in Portalnd (one of my very favorite cities), creates these sweet bowls with beautiful colors inside them.  See all of the colors here.  I think these are special enough by themselves, but if you want to take it a step further, add a flavored salt or special ground pepper to the gift!

Paulova makes gift giving even easier by offering a special gift box for an additional $4.

monogram-acrylic-tray-wedding-gift-the-hidden-list

I recently helped host a shower and this great-looking personalized acrylic tray is what we gave the future bride and groom.

monogram-acrylic-tray-personalize-wedding-gift-the-hidden-list

We chose to put the couple’s future last name on the tray and used it on the serving table with a few cocktail napkins and a set of 4 wine glasses so they’ll be ready to entertain after the wedding!

meagan-wedding-shower-gift-acrylic-tray-the-hidden-list

Meagan and Blake loved seeing their name on something, so this was a big hit!  Find this tray and other monogramed goodies at Mad for Monogram’s shop here.

pillow-tree-initials-love-gift-the-hidden-list

I think I’ve featured this adorable pillow in a post, but it’s still one of my favs.  You don’t need to be approaching marriage for this pillow; you just need to be in love.  My best friend in Houston ordered one of these with her and her husband’s name inside the heart and it sits on the couch in the den.  I love these little pillows for a wedding gift and at $35 it’s a score for anyone’s budget!  Find them in Cozy Blue’s shop here.

I hope that helped!  Do you have a special wedding gift that you like to give?  Please share it with me so I can share with all of THL’s readers!

God Bless Boston….

April 16th, 2013

When our nation experiences a tragedy like yesterday’s bombings in Boston, it just doesn’t feel right to post anything other than a reminder that we should pray for the people of Boston.
