Hi Friends! I’m finally back with a computer that is alive and well! Woo hoo!
Today I’m traveling to Portland for a little fun with my friend Dana, from Tattered Style! I’m heading there for business, but thought I would take a vaca day at the beginning of the trip to explore the city, since I’ve never been there before!

I’ll be using Remodelista’s Guide To Portland to find cool pockets of the city with laid back coffee shops and inspiring design shops…
The Ace Hotel is on the list of places to hang out at some point during my stay and I would love to hear any suggestions that are on your “do not miss” list!
I’ll keep you posted about our favorite finds!
It’s good to be back, ya’ll! XO!

rtisans from the developing world.
Wouldn’t it be your first choice to do business with a social enterprise? You can find them with the Social Impact app. It’s like a “socially conscious Yelp”!

Have you caught the Olympic spirit? Watching the Opening Ceremonies does it to me every time!
My favorite part? Cue the Bond music…
I’m blown away by all of the planning and building that takes place to prepare for this event and it appears that London was ready to show the world what it’s like to be a proper host!
The undertaking of hosting such an event requires the construction of a mini-city within London that is larger than the small town where I grew up that will accommodate 16,000 athletes and officials during the games. Let’s take a peek inside…
The apartments are simple and modern and have balconies that look out onto Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the London skyline.
The dining hall, a temporary structure, seats up to 5,000 and is open 24 hours. Can you imagine the massive amounts of food that must be prepared every day? Not to mention the various selections that must meet the taste of the world’s various pallets.
I guess if you’re an Olympic athlete you can afford to eat a few Big Macs?
The village includes a hair salon, mini recording studio, a games room, movie room, the Globe social club and many more spaces to allow the athletes to socialize and relax during their stay.
If you’re interested in owning a piece of Olympic Village, check out Remains of the Games, where already selling off furniture, fixtures, and equipment to interested buyers. You could purchase a 4-piece set of bedroom furniture for only $150…
After the Olympics are over, the village will be affordable housing for Londoners…

Check back every day this week for more Olympic inspiration!!

Now there’s another choice for what to do with your four-legged child while you’re away!
I really think I might consider this! Dog Vacay helps you find a real home where your pet can stay. Dog lovers sign up to host dogs for a small fee (starting at $15). There’s a picture of the home with a description of the environment (additional dogs, big backyard, etc) and a calendar that shoes vacancy.
My Princess is not a kennel dog… I wonder if there’s a host that has a whole guest room dressed with fine linens for her?
I’m a long time fan of the illustrations and blog of Vahram Muratyan since I love both cities so much! (See previous post here.)
I’m so excited to hear that last week his book full of 100 illustrations hit the shelves! A must have for me!
