Egg-straordinary: Easter egg decorating

March 26th, 2013

Have you ever wondered why we decorate eggs for Easter?  Well, I’m not sure why I’ve never thought about this, but I decided to look into it…

Easter-eggs-decopage-with-napkins-diy

I discovered that it’s a symbol of “New Life”!  I’m not sure why I never thought about this before!  Growing up in a Christian home, I knew that Easter was about celebrating Christ’s resurrection and just thought of the Easter bunny as the “Santa” of Easter…  I never thought about the reason behind the tradition of Easter eggs…

In Christianity, the egg symbolizes the empty tomb of Jesus.  The egg appears to be like the stone of a tomb…a bird hatches from it with life!  Similarly the Easter egg is a reminder that Jesus rose from the grave and that those who believe will experience eternal life.

I hope that this will cause you to look at the time you put into making your eggs beautiful a bit differently!

The Odd Couple

August 29th, 2012

Ever think you’d see Neiman Marcus and Target collaborating?  Well, it’s about to happen just in time for the holidays!

Target and Neiman Marcus collaboration-thehiddenlist

These two power retailers have recruited 24 designers to create limited-edition gift items.  Is anyone having flashbacks of the Missoni release? I’m hoping that Target has made a few adjustments for this event!  Some of the designers will step out of the product category comfort zone and others are staying with what they know best.  Most items will be priced under $60 with the prices ranging from  $7.99 to $499.99.  Neimans stayed very close to the design process which resulted in products made with real leather and silk, hand beading, hand-blown glass and 18K gold!  Watch for ad campaigns to begin in the fall.

The collection drops into Neiman Marcus stores, Target stores, NeimanMarcus.com and Target.com on December 1st, so mark your calendars!  The two companies are jointly making a $1 million donation to the Council of Fashion Designers of America to celebrate the partnership and affirm their continual support the American design community.

The following designers have contributed to this collection:

Alice + Olivia

Altuzarra

Band of Outsiders

Brian Atwood

Carolina Herrera

Derek Lam

Diane von Furstenberg
