In Stitches

May 1st, 2012

I’m smitten with these sweet little crocheted lamp shades from Curiosities en Tissu!  What a precious little nursery!

Not your grandma’s crochet, right?  Get out those crochet hooks and get yourself your own lampshade!

I love the idea of stitching found doilies together to create a one-of-a-kind creation!

Go old school, with a granny square lampshade!

Crocheted wire! Yes!

Here’s a great how-to to make your own doily pendant.

Do you crochet?  If so, when canl you teach me?  I knit, but never learned to crochet past the chain stitch!  Would you put a crochet lampshade in your home?

That’s a wrap!

Happy Friday! April 20th, 2012

Happy Friday, everyone!  The weather has been “California-like” this week in Dallas!  My plans this weekend are to spend as much time outside as possible and enjoy it before the Texas heat begins to burn!

I love planting herbs this time of year.  In the past I’ve stacked terra cotta pots for herb and flower gardens, but I’m loving the look of these galvanized buckets for a more industrial look.  Perhaps this year’s basil will get a new look for it’s home!

I really want to do a pallet garden like this one that’s been pinned on Pinterest a bagillion times!  If you have any old wooden pallets in the Dallas area and want to get rid of them, give me a shout!

OK…I’ve decided to try a new Friday series and I would welcome your feedback.  During my romp around the web during the week, I find many exceptional things that I don’t share, simply because I don’t have time to put together a complete post, so I thought I would share several links that I feel are highlights from my web travels…

This sweet kitty is ready to come to your defense!

I’m swooning over Eden & Eden’s vintage folk cushions!

Anyone care to join me at this retreat?

Hmmm…Where shall we brunch in Paris?

Easy changes for less toxins in your home!

It’s on!  Cover the night today!

Let me know what you think about the quick links and if it’s something you like, I’ll continue every Friday…

Have a great weekend, ya’ll!  XO!

Super Hero Capes for a cause March 30th, 2012

My friend at Grass Roots Eco Cleaners is doing something really great during the month of April.  They are joining with the National Autism  Association of North Texas to raise awareness of autism in their community.  Owner Courtney Benson said, “Several of our clients have children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and find our toxin free dry cleaning services helpful when it comes to keeping their families healthy.  Because we are a company that likes to support small businesses (we sell really cool items made by small businesses here in DFW), we enlisted the help of a local business, The Umbrella Girl Shop, to create Hero Capes. The Hero Capes have been a really popular item that we have been carrying in the store, so we thought it was a perfect match for this great cause!”

For all Hero Capes sold during the month of April, Grass Roots Eco Cleaners will donate 20% of the proceeds to the National Association of Autism of North Texas.  Very cool!

bentwood rings March 28th, 2012

Recently I was contacted by Jim, from Bojt Studio, and he shared the story of their unique bentwood rings.  I think they’re lovely.

Jim said, “We are artisans who make custom Bentwood Rings in the traditional Scandinavian style. Bojt Studio Bentwood Rings are born of hardwood, then we replace the natural oils of the wood with durable acrylic to handcraft comfortable rings of incredible durability. Even without a protective finish, the rings will last for decades.

They are one of a handful of wood ring benders in the world.  I really like the idea of this version for a wedding band!bentwood ring

There are 54 species of wood to chose from!  Find their website here.

What’s On The Other Side

The Workroom March 6th, 2012

I found a new little gem in West Dallas while I attended the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge celebration on Saturday!

The Workroom Dallas

The Workroom is a curated collection of floral, arts, whimsical crafts and antiques put together by artist and designer, Nick Troilo and Jim Wright.  Starting with the colorful front porch, the atmosphere invites you to hang out for a while.

Inside is one amazing vignette after the other and packed full of unique finds, succulents and floral.  This space is much bigger than it appears from the outside!  Here’s a peak at what I found inside…

Random Stash

Stash {vintage finds} evolves February 20th, 2012

About a month ago, three good friends and I collaborated to show vintage finds and handmade goods at Dallas Market Center.  We were amazed at the positive response we received and how well our  individual finds came together to show so well!

We all wished that we had room in our homes for this amazing industrial table…

Stash is now a collaboration of Gloria Burson (A Modern Glo), Lisa Johnson (Cut and Paste), Dana Pugh (Tattered Style) and me!

Stash at Dallas Market Center

One of the connections we made at market was with the wonderful owners of Random, Mark and Shelly Hearne.  Random is located in Hillside Village in Lakewood and filled with unique finds that you won’t see at other gift shops in Dallas. That’s why it was an easy answer when Mark and Shelly asked us to explore the opportunity to style their windows and display our finds in their store!
