Out On A Limb

September 10th, 2012

I’m not sure what I want in my backyard the most… an Airstream guesthouse…

Or this dreamy treehouse…

…and I just happen to have the perfect tree right in the middle of my backyard…

…and then there’s that whole idea to transform my garage into a studio/guest room/sitting room…

My garage is very similar to this (image via)

I would keep the walls inside the way they are now and just add paint, like this… (image via)

I can envision my friends spending hours here, talking and creating…dreaming… (images via)

Which guest house would you rather stay in?  Help me decide and maybe some day it will become a reality and you can come be a guest in my backyard!

Real(ly) Real

August 27th, 2012

Pat Smith is among a group of women that I truly admire. She’s the real deal! Sure…it’s pretty cool that she married one of the most well-known Dallas Cowbo

y legends, Emmitt Smith, but there’s SO much more to Pat. She’s most known for her philanthropic efforts on behalf of women and children and her active involvement in church, civic and community activities.

Pat Smith-treasure you-the realreal-thehiddenlist

I’m convinced that Pat wakes up drop-dead gorgeous every morning. She is the definition of sophisticated style and today through August 29th you have a chance to nab a piece of her wardrobe from the online re-sale shop, therealreal.com. Proceeds from the sale will go to Smith’s non-profit, “Treasure You” where she serves as Founder/CEO. This organization’s mission is to mentor, inspire and uplift women to pursue their passions in life despite their circumstances or setbacks.

Items from the sale includes a full range of luxury lines including handbags, shoes and apparel from Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo, and Alexander McQueen just to name a few. Also contributing to the sale is Pat’s husband, Emmitt Smith. (Did you know that Emmitt will soon be back on Dancing With the Stars as an All-Star? Go Emmitt!!)

Tap Into Trinity Groves

August 20th, 2012

As someone who lives “across the bridge”, I’m stoked about all of the activity that is starting to happen over here!  Just on the other side of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, there is building and planning taking place that will eventually result in an area that is very Austin-esque…you know…cool and unique!

trinity-groves-thehiddenlist

Phil Romano, a well-known Dallas restauranteur, snapped up many of the existing buildings at the base of the bridge with plans to turn this area into “Foodie Heaven” with incubator restaurants with a mix of unique retail shops, a concert venue and much more, called Trinity Groves!

trinity-grove-thehiddenlist

One location that is currently under construction is Sharon Van Meter’s, of the multi-purpose kitchen and event venue previously on McKinney just south of Knox – Milestone Culinary Arts Center, Beignet Bridge Club.  I love the play on the “bridge” that she’s chosen for the name!  Since she studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, I’m sure that the beignets will be delicious!  She’ll be serving breakfast and a light lunch.  Adjacent to the “Bridge Club” will be a “clubby bar” (according to Crave DFW), called The Santuary.  With plans to open at the end of the year, the interior of the bar will resemble a high-end hotel lobby with art work on the wall for sale.

Those of you that may have seen the large, now open air, building on the right just after you cross the bridge, may be curious what this is going to be…  This is where many of the restaurants and retail, and an amphitheatre will be located.  There will be a huge area for dining and entertaining large crowds!

fourcorners-brewery-thehiddenlist

four-corners-brewery-thehiddenlist

Other things to look for expect?  A city park, the extension of the Katy Trail, Babb Brother BBQ and Blues (which will house another venue for concerts), Four Corners Brewing Company (logo and construction picture above), and more.  Oh…and the best part?  NO CHAINS of any kind allowed!  Only original concepts are invited to this party!!

Untapped_FeaturedBrews_thehiddenlist

One of the first events scheduled for this area will take place Sept. 15.  Originally held in Uptown, Dallas Untapped is moving to Trinity Groves in order to have enough room for the 50+ breweries and 120+ brews scheduled to take part in this festival featuring Indie brews and Indie music.  Find ticket information here.
