Who Does She Think She Is?
I was recently contacted by sweet mixed media artist and fellow blogger, Ashley Thames Brown. She told me about a wonderful event that I want to encourage all creative women, and those who have relationships with creative women, to attend.
Ashley’s friend, Jill Allison Bryan, is hosting this film screening and fundraiser for Women for Women International July 13th, from 6pm to 9pm, at La Grange in Deep Ellum. The cost is only $10 and half of the proceeds will go to the charity. After the screening, Ashley will join a panel of local women artist and gallery owners for a Q&A.
“Who Does She Think She Is” addresses the issue that women often feel the need to chose: mothering or working? Your children’s well-being or your own? Responsibility or self-expression? Why the need to chose?
Ashley shared with me that she saw this film at SMU two years ago and it changed her life. I just watched the trailer for the film and I support the importance of this film. Please watch and let me know what you think.

Have you ever been misunderstood for your need to create?

Wow, so great! Wish I could make it! When I was little (under 5 yrs old), my mom bought me a bunch of canvas and paints. I painted my little heart away and declared I wanted to grow up to be an artist. I have always been creative, but my parents discouraged a profession in art (or graphic design, or anything in the creative field) because “it wouldn’t make any money”. I admire the courage and perseverance of these woman who are supporting themselves with their art!
