Striking A Gourd

Gloria Burson

I’m really excited about introducing you to my friend and amazing artist, Gloria Burson.

She’s one of the most creative people I know and I can’t help but smile when I’m around her.  You’ll love her sculptures that she creates with gourds and found objects.  Gloria “gives birth” to these creatures, names them and tells their story.

“Steamed Queen Mother” is part of her “Flourishes” collection.  Each piece in this collection is meaningful and would make a great girlfriend gift!

Steamed Queen Mother

Even the loftiest of mothers need to let off some steam.

I know I’m a bit out of season in sharing this collection, but her Halloween pieces are some of my favorites. They’re whimsical and kooky!

See what I mean?  I’m in love with them all!

Beauty & The Beast

Recently Gloria posted an incredible description of her inspiration and passion behind her art.

“I love junk…dirty, rusty, worn down junk. I can’t pass up a piece that has a heavy patina, even if it is broken. These pieces are reminders of the past, and although they might be chipped and rusty, they were enjoyed and had a purpose. I use these items in my work, because they add depth and layers.

My current sculptures are a series of people. They are made with a hodgepodge of bits and pieces. They are quirky and full of imperfection. I think they are a great reminder, that we do not need to hide our imperfections. We are a collection of so many parts and pieces and they should add to our story and make us the unique creation we were intended to be.”

Beautiful words of truth, indeed!

Currently Gloria is selling her sculptures at various art shows and at Tucker Brown in Aspen, Colorado. Follow her blog, A Modern Glo, here and  “like” her Facebook page to stay updated on upcoming shows!
